COPY OF THE ORGINAL MINUTES
OF THE FOUNDING OF ANTIOCH BAPTIST CHURCH

1848
June 10th
Met at Antioch and after preaching by brother J. M. Power set in
conference, 1st--- resolved that we the Arm of Doves Creek church do
call on the Elders of the following churches to meet us at Antioch on
the 5th of July next for the perpose of constituting into a church at
the said place. The following is a list of the churches with the
brethering to bear the solicitation u. s: Doves Creek---Woodson C.
Boooth
Fork B. River---John Booth
Millstone--------Wm. J. Moore
Falling Creek---Joel Moore
Holly Springs---C. J. Moore
Sardis-------------Richard
Vans Creek------C. J. Moore & Wm. J. Moore
Resloved that the letter embrace the solicitation of all the pasters of
the churches don and
Assign by order of the body.

July the 5th
According to previous arrangement the arm of Doves Creek church met at
Antioch for the Perpose of constituting into a Church.
1st Brother P. P. Butler preached the introductry sermon after which an
intomition of twenty mimits. Convened in the house and prear by brother B.
Thornton.
2nd -Ministers and deacons as follows formed a presbytery;
From Doves Creek: P.T. Burges, minister; John N. Moore, Alexander Vaughn, Wm.
Alman, Deacons Fork B. River: Jesse Power, Daniel Win, George Eberhart, Deacons
Millstone: P. P. Butler, minister; Berry Hartsfield, Deacon
Holly Spring: Wm. T. Maxwell, Deacon Sardis: B. Thornton, minister and H. J.
Goss, Deacon Vans Creek: I. H. Goss, Wm. Goss, minister; J. S. Shckleford, dacon
Thus call brother Butler to the moderator seat, C. J. Moore and H. J.
Goss to act as Secretary.
4th--- Inquired of the members present if they still wished to be
constituted into a church. They answered they did.
5th--- Call for and read the artickes of faith which were considered
orthodox.
6th--- After some discursion and explanation it was believed that they
were in order and in good standing to be constituted and they were therefore
pronunced a Gospel Church with all the priverligesses of the Gospel.
7th--- Prayre by I. H. Goss after which they give each other the rite
hand of fellowship and and come to a close.

Of Antioch Baptist church
That all things be done to the priase of God, decently and in order let
the following rules Of decorum be observed in the Chuch of Christ at Antioch.
1st---That every free male member attend every conference whether stated
or occasional
2nd-When in conference provide as follows first in absence of the Pastor
choose a moderator protem, Secondly open a door of admission, Thirdly call for
the refference on the church book the oldest the first in order, and then attend
to new matters, if any in order
3rd---Every member attending to speak shall arise and address the
moderator, and shall not be interrupted, except he depart from the subject, or
use (improper) language in either of which case it shall be the duty of the
moderator to call to order, but any brother may have the opinion of the
conference in that case if he chooses
4th---No member shall speak more than thrice to the same subject without
leave of the conference, and no motion shall claim the attention of the
moderator except it be seconded
5th---No brother shall go out til conference be adjourned without leave
of the moderator nor shall any of the members hold any private discourse
(during) time of conference
6th---Every absentee shall be noticed before the conference arise, except
some person present can assign a sufficient reason for his (absence)
7th---Those who were absent (---illegible---), shall be called on for
their reason which shall be adjudged of by the conference
8th---If any member shall fail to attend two meeting in succession, he
shall be called on by the church, to attend the next conference, at which if he
does not attend he shall be considered as under the censure of the church,
untill the conference, thereafter, when he shall be excluded from membership if
sufficient cause be not shown by himself or some other member to the contrary
9th---That all the members indiscriminately attend the Quarterly meeting
offcially at communion in which conference the covenant shall be red to geather
with tthe rules o this Decorum
10th---It shall be the duty of the deacons to notice those who shall not
take their seats at the table, but the receiving of the elements shall be left
to themselves, and to lay before the next conference a list of those who sits
off or were mixed with the multitude in the yard, or who did not attend as
fair as their recollection will serve them, and they shall be called
on if present for their reason for so doing , of which the conference
shall judge, if not present they shall be cited for the same purpose and on
failur be proceded with as provided for in case of non attendence at the
communion conference
