Weirton Steel Retiree was WWII Navy Veteran

Glenn R. Riggs, 72, of 429 Indiana Avenue, Chester, W.Va., died at 6:40 a.m. 
Wednesday, September 16, 1998, in Fox Nursing Home, Chester, where he had been 
a patient for two years.

He was born April 4, 1926, in Greene County, a son of John R. and Lilly B. 
Grimm Riggs.  He was a resident of Weirton, W.Va., until moving to Chester 30 
years ago.

Mr. Riggs was a member of Chester First Christian Church, where he was a 
former elder and deacon.

He was a graduate of Aleppo High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, 
serving in the South Pacific during World War II.

He retired after 32 years as a heater and bottom maker in Blooming Mill of 
Weirton Steel.

Mr. Riggs was a member of the mill's 25 Year Club, and was a former Chester 
councilman.

On November 19, 1946, he married Gloria M. Gable, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Terry G. Riggs of East Liverpool, Ohio, and 
Joseph Scott Riggs of Bradenton, Fla.; two daughters, Bonnie S. Lee of Newell, 
W.Va., and Sandra L. Loar of Colliers, W.Va.; eight grandchildren and three 
great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ralph Riggs of Chester and Kenneth 
Riggs of Detroit, Mich.
