Susan White Williamson

Susan White Williamson was born on February 14, 1811 in Charlotte County, 
Virginia. She died on October 1, 1896 in Boles, Franklin County, Missouri. She 
was the daughter of Charles Williamson (1781-1824) and Elizabeth Smith (Brown) 
Williamson (1789-1869).  The granddaughter of American Revolutionary Patriots 
Ensign Cuthbert Williamson (1742-1811) and Private James Brown (1760-1829) of 
Virginia.

Susan's ancestors were part of the Southern gentry and wealthy landowners in 
Virginia for generations. However, in the winter of 1819, her parents migrated to 
Franklin County, Missouri when she was just a child.  The family lived in log 
cabins in Labadie, Franklin County before establishing a homestead and farm in 
Boles, just outside of Labadie.  Susan married Cuthbert Swepson Jeffries in 
Franklin on September 13, 1827.

Cuthbert Swepson Jeffries was born on July 1, 1805, in Mechlenburg County, 
Virginia.  He died on December 24, 1896, in Boles. He was the son of Achilles 
Whitehead Jeffries (1782-1859) and Susannah Price (Williamson) Jeffries (1783-
1870), natives of Virginia. 

Cuthbert and Susan made their home on the family farm in Boles.  They were the 
parents of nine children.  Five died at a young age. Susan V. Jeffries (1832-
1836), Achilles Grundy Jeffries (1834-1842), Martha M. Jeffries (1839-1839), 
Elizabeth Mason Jeffries (1840-1846), Lesbia Jeffries (1843-1845).  The children 
were buried on the family farm in Boles.  When the farm was sold, Cuthbert 
exempted a 20x20 foot section of the property designated for the Jeffries 
Cemetery. The forgotten cemetery was discovered by a workman on the property in 
1981. The property is privately owned, with no access to the cemetery. 

The children who survived to adulthood were, Caroline Williamson Jeffries (1828-
1874), Dr. Charles Williamson Jeffries (1830-1873), Virginia Jeffries Crews 
(1837-1896) and Eudora Jeffries Davis (1847-1924).

Married for nearly seventy years, Cuthbert and Susan died two months apart in 
1896.  They are buried at the Bethel Cemetery in Labadie, Franklin County, 
Missouri.  Cuthbert acquired the first six deeds from C. C. Jones in 1878 to 
establish the cemetery for his family's future resting place.
