>From "History of Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, Crawford and
Gasconade Counties", Biographical Appendix, Goodspeed Publishing
Company, 1888.

**********************************************************************

W. E. Valentine, the subject of this sketch, is the son of Eli and
Nancy S. (Harris) Valentine, natives of Illinois and Kentucky, respec-
tively. The father came to Franklin County at a very early day, and
followed farming until his death, which occurred in 1865. The mother
is now living in Texas. Our subject was born in Franklin County, Mo.,
December 29, 1851 and was reared on the farm, and educated in the
public schools of that county. He has followed agricultural pursuits
as an avocation, and now owns a fine farm three and a half miles from
Washington, on the Washington and Union road. He served as deputy
sheriff of Franklin County from 1876 until 1880. In September of the
latter year he was united in marriage to Miss Belle Todd, who was born
in Franklin County, Mo., and to this marriage were born three children,
all living. Mr. Valentine and wife are members of the Christian Church.
