**********************************************************************
Henry W. Plackmann was born in Franklin County, Mo., in 1854, and is
the son of Frederick and Anna E. (Schweerkotting), both natives of
Germany. When about the age of twelve the father was brought to this
country and located in Franklin County, in 1839, being among the first
settlers. The mother came here when a young woman, and here she was
married to the father of our subject. They settled a place in the
woods, and by hard work and economy added to his land until he owned
about 400 acres. The father lived to be nearly sixty-one years of
age; the mother is still living, and is sixty-three years old. The
father served in the militia during the war, and was a Republican in
politics. He and wife were members of the Lutheran Church. Henry W.
was the second of seven children, and was reared on the farm. In
1879 he was united in marriage to Miss Matilda Becker, a native of St.
Louis, born in the year 1861, and the daughter of Frank L. and Cath-
erine Becker. Mr. Plackmann's marriage resulted in the birth of four
children: Katie, Anna, Fritz and Louis. He is a Republican in poli-
tics, and both he and wife are members of the Lutheran Church. Mr.
Plackmann now owns 140 acres of land, and is a wide-awake, thorough
going farmer.
