>From "History of Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, Crawford and
Gasconade Counties", Biographical Appendix, Goodspeed Publishing
Company, 1888.

**********************************************************************

Rudolph Borgmann, farmer, is the son of Herman and Mary (Sige) Borg-
mann, both natives of Hanover, Germany, where they were married, and
where they lived until about 1853, when they came to America. They
settled in Franklin County, Mo., and here passed the remainder of their
days. The father was a farmer, a Republican in politics, and he and
wife were members of the Lutheran Church. The mother had been previ-
ously married, and five children were the result of this union. To her
second marriage were born three children, Rudolph being the youngest.
He was born in Hanover, Germany, and received his education in the
German language. At the age of sixteen he came to this country by
himself to join a brother, who had preceded him two years. He followed
the carpenter's trade for about six months, and then began working by
the month on a farm. During the war he served about six months in the
militia. In 1866 he was united in marriage to Miss Louisa Koch, a
native of this county, born in the year 1848, and the daughter of Henry
and Kate (Botte) Koch, who were natives of Germany. To our subject and
wife were born eleven children: Kate, Augusta, Karoline, Mary, Henry,
William, Willhelmine, Rudolph, Elise, Joan and Elise. Mr. Borgmann is
a successful farmer, having a fine farm of 101 acres, all of which he
has made by his own efforts. He is a Republican in politics, and he
and wife are members of the Lutheran Church.
