Surveyed: 1935 and 1975 and June & July, 2003 GPS: N33º26.228, W084º08.696 MAP G, page 16 (not available) Introduction: This cemetery is located in Land Lot 155 of the 7th District of Henry County, Georgia. Take I75 South to Exit 221. Turn left on Jonesboro Road and travel about 3.9 miles to the Square in McDonough. Turn right, then immediately left around the Square. Then turn right on Macon Street and go about .6 miles. The cemetery is on the left. The cemetery was begun in 1846 on land donated to the City of McDonough. Over the years the cemetery has suffered its share of neglect and vandalism, however, the City, in recent years, has restored the cemetery substantially and is maintaining it in a most acceptable fashion. Early surveys for this cemetery were done in 1935 by Franklin Garrett and in about 1975 by Vessie Thrasher Rainer. These surveys were used and updated in 2003 by a volunteer team. A map of the cemetery with grids can be used to locate approximately individual graves. Graves reported on earlier surveys, but which could not be located during the survey of 2003, were assigned the grid number "99". There were numerous grave sites covered by concrete slabs but without markers of any kind, and many depressed areas which represented unmarked graves. These burials, of course, could not be recorded.
