County Seat - Leadville
(1861-1867 Oro City, 1868-1870 Dayton, 1870-1879 Granite)
Population - 7,812
 
Lake County is one of the original Colorado counties. Parts of the original Lake County were split off to form: 1866's Saguache; 1874's La Plata and Hinsdale; 1876's San Juan; 1877's Gunnison and 1879's Chaffee Counties. Also in 1879, Lake County was briefly renamed Carbonate County.
