`Searching for brothers of Thomas H. SMITH who was born in 1816 and died 1897 in Smithville, GA. He had 6 brothers, most who lived and raised families in AL. The GA SMITHS referred to them as the Alabama SMITHS. Two of the brothers were named Bill and Alec(x)but I don't know if these were among the ones in AL. Thomas H. SMITH is thought to have lived near Columbus, GA for a time. There is a story that he walked to AL to see his brothers, so I assume they lived near the AL/GA border. The Alabama SMITHS kept in touch with Thomas' son, Britton Carmichael SMITH(my great grandfather) until at least the 1930's. Thomas H. SMITH and the Alabama brothers were sons of a Harbard SMITH who deserted his sick wife to run off w/ another woman. The SMITHS were often very tall and long-living people. Hope this sounds familiar to someone.

William Lackey, husband of Nancy Spears, was in Dekalb Co. Al. in 1850. Wm, born 1794, died in the 1880s (either 84 or 86). We found his gravesite (Mizell Cem. near Boaz Alabama). Have been unable to find him on an 1880 Alabama census. His son James Russell Lackey and wife Rosanna Dixon are buried close to Mizell cem, at Aurora Cem. Can anyone help with William's whereabouts in 1880? And does anyone have a picture of William Lackey? Would love to swap info. Thanks. Melba Lowe
